Does a screw press sludge dewatering machine need cleaning?

1. Why is Cleaning Necessary?


Screw press sludge dewatering machines require regular cleaning and maintenance during operation to ensure efficient operation, extend service life, and prevent sludge clogging or wear problems.

Preventing Clogging: Fibers, sand, or sticky substances in the sludge can adhere to the screw shaft or screen, leading to decreased dewatering efficiency.
Reducing Wear: Long-term accumulation of hard particles (such as sand and gravel) accelerates wear on the screw shaft and screen.
Preventing Corrosion: Acidic or alkaline components in the sludge, or gases such as hydrogen sulfide, can corrode equipment parts.
Maintaining Dewatering Results: Cleaning ensures that the dryness of the output sludge and the processing capacity meet standards.

2. Cleaning Frequency


Daily Cleaning: Simple rinsing after each shift (8-12 hours).
Regular Deep Cleaning: Once a week or once a month (adjusted according to sludge properties; more frequent cleaning is needed for highly viscous sludge).
Abnormal Situations: If the machine is found to have wet sludge, abnormally high current, or increased noise during operation, immediately stop the machine for inspection.

3. Cleaning Procedures

(1) Shutdown and Safe Operation


Turn off the power and lock the emergency stop switch.
Drain the remaining sludge from the machine and flush the feed pipe.

(2) Flushing the Screen and Spiral Shaft


High-Pressure Water Gun Flushing: Use high-pressure water (pressure ≥ 5MPa) to flush the screen gaps and spiral shaft surface of the spiral press sludge dewatering machine to remove adhering sludge.
Chemical Cleaning: If the sludge scale is severe, it can be soaked in diluted acid-base cleaning agents (such as citric acid or NaOH solution) and then rinsed (note the corrosion resistance of the material).

(3) Inspecting Wear Parts


Screen: Check for blockage or damage; clean or replace with a soft brush if necessary.
Spiral Shaft: Check the wear of the blades; repair or replace if severely worn.
Sealing Rings: Prevent water leakage or sludge overflow; replace aged sealing rings promptly. 

(4) Lubrication and Maintenance


Apply high-temperature grease (such as lithium-based grease) to bearings and transmission components.
Check the reducer's lubricating oil level and change it regularly (according to the manufacturer's manual).

4. Precautions


Safety First: Ensure the equipment is completely stopped when cleaning the screw press sludge dewatering machine to avoid mechanical damage.
Avoid Scratching with Hard Objects: Do not use metal tools to scrape the screen directly to avoid deformation.
Water Quality Requirements: Use clean water for rinsing, avoiding sand or impurities.
Maintenance Log: Record cleaning time, problems found, and replaced parts.

5. Long-Term Maintenance Recommendations


Regular Calibration: Check the gap between the screw shaft and the screen to ensure it meets the design value (usually 0.5-1.5mm).
Preventive Maintenance: Conduct a complete disassembly and inspection every 3-6 months, replacing worn parts.
Optimize Operating Parameters: Adjust the speed, feed rate, etc., according to the sludge properties to reduce the risk of clogging.

Common Problem Handling
Screen Clogging: Reduce feed concentration and increase rinsing frequency. High moisture content in discharged mud: Check if the screen is damaged or the screw shaft is worn.
Abnormal vibration: Check if the bearings are damaged or the screw shaft is unbalanced.
